Geusi Vounou green split peas are well suited to thick soups, purées, spreads and vegetable dishes where a smooth, dense texture is needed. The split peas gradually break down during cooking and naturally thicken the dish without flour or starch.
Rinse the peas before cooking, then simmer in clean water or stock until they reach the required softness; soaking is not necessary. The 500 g pack is enough for several everyday meals or a large pot of soup.
Why we added Geusi Vounou to the PraveBio.cz range
Geusi Vounou is a Greek agricultural producer from the Grevena region, growing, packing and selling its own produce. The family farm combines traditional Greek ingredients with standardised control of production and processing.
We added the brand to the PraveBio.cz range for its traceable origin, direct link to agricultural production and clear distinction between certified organic products and the rest of the range.
Green Split Peas (Geusi Vounou, 500 g)
Geusi Vounou green split peas are a natural dried pulse from Greece. The split peas break down readily during cooking, making them well suited to recipes with a creamy or dense texture.
They are a staple ingredient for hearty pulse soups, purées, spreads and vegetable dishes. The traditional Greek packaging describes the product as “green fava” and recommends it for a typical Greek purée, soups and salads, or as a side dish with fish and seafood.
The peas are unseasoned and contain no additives. Adjust the finished flavour with your choice of stock, fresh vegetables, herbs and spices. They combine particularly well with onion, garlic, bay leaf, lemon juice and good-quality olive oil.
How to use
- Thick soups – the peas partially break down during cooking and naturally thicken the soup base without the need for flour.
- Traditional fava purée – cook until soft, blend until smooth and season with olive oil, lemon and chopped onion.
- Nourishing spreads – blend the cooled, cooked peas with herbs, spices or roasted vegetables.
- Salads and vegetable dishes – shorten the cooking time so the split peas retain a firmer texture.
Sort through and rinse the peas before cooking. Simmer in clean water or stock until they reach the required consistency, adding more liquid as needed.

FAQ
What are green split peas?
They are dried peas with the skins removed and the grains split lengthways into halves. They soften and break down readily during cooking, making them well suited to creamy soups, purées and spreads.

What does green fava mean on the packaging?
The term green fava on the Greek packaging refers to green split peas used to make a traditional Greek purée. The product can also be added to soups, salads and vegetable dishes.

How should green split peas be prepared?
First sort through the peas and rinse them thoroughly with water. Simmer in clean water or stock until they reach the required softness. Add more liquid during cooking as needed.

Do the peas need to be soaked before cooking?
Soaking is not required and is not specified by the producer on the packaging. Simply rinse the peas thoroughly before cooking. Soaking them may shorten the overall cooking time.

Which recipes are the peas best suited to?
They work particularly well in thick soups, Greek fava purée, spreads and vegetable dishes. With a shorter cooking time, they can also be added to cold salads.

How do they differ from whole dried peas?
Split peas have no skin and are divided into two halves. They cook more quickly and break down more readily, so they suit purées and soups where the peas do not need to retain their whole shape.

Is this product organic?
No. Organic certification is not stated on the packaging or in the official documentation, so we do not describe this product as organic.

Does the product contain any additives?
No. It contains only 100% green split peas, with no added salt, flavourings or preservatives.

Are the peas certified gluten-free?
The ingredients are naturally gluten-free, but the packaging does not include certification guaranteeing gluten-free production. We therefore do not describe the product as certified gluten-free.

Which country do the peas come from?
This is a Greek product from the Geusi Vounou brand, based in the Grevena region of Western Macedonia, Greece.

How should the peas be stored after opening?
Store in a dry, dark place. Once opened, transfer the contents to a tightly sealed glass or plastic container.

GEUSI VOUNOU "mountain taste"
We are an agricultural business and we grow, produce, package and promote our products ourselves. Our fields are located in Vatolakko Grevena, Greece, at an altitude of 680 metres.
Our dream became a reality thanks to the secret that our grandmother Magdalini revealed to us: the love and respect for nature and its gifts. Every flower, every twig and every root is a gift from nature.

Our products are pure, free of chemicals and perfumes. We dry them naturally in the shade to preserve their fragrance and high quality.
We try to preserve them in their original form, as offered by Mother Nature, with as little processing as possible before packaging.
Today, we grow organic herbs and other aromatic plants with an emphasis on the purity of our products and the traditional way of preparing them.

The manufacturer of our company is Vassilis Karapas. He was born in 1994 in Grevena and studied agricultural development and farm business management at the Alexandria Institute of Technology in Thessaloniki.
He has been farming since his youth, coming from a farming family. It is currently engaged in the production, packaging and promotion of high quality agricultural products using innovative techniques.

Geusi Vounou aims to combine Greek tastes with new models of standardisation and quality control.
Once we have ensured the excellent quality of our products, we want to spread them to all corners of Europe and introduce the uniqueness that lies in this small country called Greece.
