Six mushrooms. Five Pure Grade extracts. One precisely specified blend.
Myco Synergy is an organic functional mushroom powder with 1,000 mg of mushroom ingredients per 1 g serving. Lion’s mane, reishi, maitake, tremella and shiitake come as fruiting-body extracts; cordyceps is supplied as full-spectrum biomass.
The mushrooms come from specialist growers in China. Mushrooms For Life identifies Longquan for reishi and Qingyuan for lion’s mane, with each species organically cultivated under conditions tailored to the mushroom. The finished product is Soil Association Organic certified and the pack is marked Third Party Lab Tested.

Pure Grade: what the designation actually means
Pure Grade is Mushrooms For Life’s designation for its concentrated fruiting-body extracts. The brand distinguishes these from so-called “drinks grade” extracts, where higher levels of maltodextrin may be used during processing. Pure Grade is made with zero added maltodextrin, and Mushrooms For Life states that individual batches are independently tested.
Extraction ratios and standardisation vary by mushroom. Across the wider Pure Grade range, the brand lists examples such as maitake extracted at up to 12:1, alongside species-specific minimum beta-glucan levels. Those individual figures are not the specification for the complete Myco Synergy blend, so we do not apply them across the formula.
Myco Synergy contains five Pure Grade ingredients: lion’s mane, reishi, maitake, tremella and shiitake. Lion’s mane and reishi are dual fruiting-body extracts; maitake, tremella and shiitake are hot-water fruiting-body extracts. Cordyceps is supplied as full-spectrum biomass.
Where the mushrooms come from — and why the raw materials are grown in China
Mushrooms For Life describes long-standing relationships with organic growers in specialist regions of China. For Myco Synergy, the brand names Longquan for reishi and Qingyuan for lion’s mane, with other species sourced from dedicated growing regions.
After cultivation, each species is processed according to its specified form: lion’s mane and reishi as dual fruiting-body extracts, maitake, tremella and shiitake as hot-water fruiting-body extracts, and cordyceps as full-spectrum biomass.
Formula: exactly how much of each mushroom is in 1 g

Beta-glucans, third-party testing and the 2023 batch COA
The current manufacturer specification guarantees a minimum of 20% beta-glucans in the finished blend. The 2023 Certificate of Analysis for batch MFL223 measured 29.65% beta-glucans, 37.95% polysaccharides and 4.75% moisture.
A single batch result is not an evergreen figure for every future jar, which is why we use the manufacturer’s guaranteed minimum of 20% beta-glucans as the permanent product specification.
Serving, flavour and how to use it
- Take 1 g, around 1/2 teaspoon, 1–4 times daily.
- The manufacturer describes the flavour as mild. Stir into coffee, tea or other hot drinks, blend into smoothies or add to breakfast bowls.
- A 60 g jar provides 60 servings at 1 g each.
Soil Association Organic and quality control
The product is Soil Association Organic certified. The manufacturer’s COA also states that Living Planet Ltd.’s production facilities are registered for food manufacture, organically certified and audited annually by the Soil Association.
The MFL223 batch documentation includes microbiology, pesticide and heavy-metal testing, plus batch-number traceability through production and quality control.
Why Myco Synergy earned a place at PraveBio
For mushroom blends, we look for source information, the part of the mushroom used, extraction method, exact amounts, standardisation and accessible documentation. Myco Synergy publishes those details in its product specification and supporting batch documentation.
Traceable sourcing
The brand identifies long-standing growers in China, including Longquan for reishi and Qingyuan for lion’s mane.
Form + amount
Five fruiting-body extracts and cordyceps biomass are listed separately, with the exact amount of each per 1 g serving.
Documentation + distribution
Soil Association Organic certification and batch documentation are available, and PraveBio handles European distribution for Mushrooms For Life.
FAQ
What is the difference between fruiting body, mycelium and mushroom biomass?
The fruiting body is the visible mushroom. Mycelium is the network of fungal threads from which it grows. Biomass is a broader term for cultivated fungal material; in Myco Synergy, the cordyceps full-spectrum biomass includes young fruiting bodies, mycelium and fermented growing medium.
That is why we do not describe all six ingredients as fruiting-body extracts. Five are Pure Grade fruiting-body extracts; cordyceps is a separately defined full-spectrum biomass.
Why is cordyceps a biomass while the other five mushrooms are fruiting-body extracts?
Mushrooms For Life uses a full-spectrum Cordyceps sinensis biomass, described as a combination of young fruiting bodies, mycelium and fermented growing medium. Lion’s mane, reishi, maitake, tremella and shiitake are used as fruiting-body extracts.
They are two distinct ingredient forms within the same blend. We list them separately so the formula is technically accurate rather than implying that every mushroom has been processed in the same way.
What does “dual extract” mean for lion’s mane and reishi?
Mushrooms For Life specifies lion’s mane and reishi as dual fruiting-body extracts. Maitake, tremella and shiitake are listed as hot-water fruiting-body extracts.
The brand does not publish a separate extraction ratio for the lion’s mane and reishi in Myco Synergy, so we do not borrow ratios from other Pure Grade products or infer one for this blend.
What does minimum 20% beta-glucans mean, and why does the COA show 29.65%?
20% is the guaranteed minimum for the finished blend under the current manufacturer specification. The 29.65% figure comes from the laboratory result for batch MFL223, tested in 2023.
Individual batches can test above the guaranteed minimum. We therefore use 20% as the evergreen product specification and present 29.65% only as a batch-specific COA result. The same COA measured 37.95% total polysaccharides; total polysaccharides and beta-glucans are not the same measurement.
Do Pure Grade extracts contain maltodextrin?
Mushrooms For Life states that its Pure Grade extracts are made with zero added maltodextrin. Pure Grade is the brand’s designation for concentrated fruiting-body extracts; extraction ratios and minimum beta-glucan specifications vary by mushroom.
This applies to the five Pure Grade extracts in Myco Synergy. Cordyceps is listed separately as full-spectrum biomass.
Is Myco Synergy powder the same blend as the capsules?
The powder and capsules use the same six mushrooms in the same relative proportions, but the serving amounts differ. A 1 g powder serving provides 1,000 mg of mushroom ingredients, while two capsules provide 800 mg in total.
Powder suits customers who want to mix the blend into drinks or food; capsules provide a pre-measured format with no preparation.
Is Myco Synergy a mushroom powder or a mushroom extract?
Both terms describe different aspects of the product. Myco Synergy is sold as a loose functional mushroom powder, but five of its six mushroom ingredients are concentrated fruiting-body extracts. Cordyceps is supplied as full-spectrum biomass.
So this is not simply dried mushrooms milled into powder. When comparing functional mushroom blends, look beyond the format and check the part used, extraction method, amount per serving, beta-glucan specification and whether batch testing or a COA is available.
Is Myco Synergy third-party tested, and what does the COA show?
Yes. Mushrooms For Life states that the product is third-party tested, and PraveBio holds the 2023 COA for batch MFL223. It reports beta-glucans, total polysaccharides, moisture, microbiology, pesticides and heavy metals.
A COA documents one tested batch rather than guaranteeing identical results for every future batch. That is why this page keeps the manufacturer’s ongoing specification separate from batch-specific laboratory results.

About the brand

Mushrooms For Life was originally founded in 2011 by well-known naturopath and author Martin Powell with the goal of making the best mushroom supplements widely available and accessible.
Martin, who is fluent in Mandarin, spent many years in China working with experienced local growers to ensure Mushrooms For Life sourced the highest quality ingredients; this is still the brand's focus today.
In 2017 Martin entrusted Mushrooms For Life to his colleagues and experienced mushroom educators Graham Botfield and Ben Shouler, who continue his work to this day.
We use only the highest quality organic ingredients that are carefully selected to take full advantage of each mushroom's function

Tradition and quality
We source only the highest quality organically grown mushrooms from our growers in China. The use of medicinal mushrooms has been a cornerstone of traditional Chinese medicine and this practice dates back thousands of years.
No country has more extensive knowledge of mushroom cultivation and sourcing than China. China is also home to some of the world's largest and cleanest forests, which provide an ideal environment for fungi to grow.
Based on ongoing DNA analyses, it is widely known that China grows the highest quality mushrooms in the world.
