BREAKFAST WITH TURTLE
Overnight oats with strawberry chia jam
A Turtle recipe for one breakfast serving. Strawberries and chia seeds make the fruit layer, while the oats soften overnight in the fridge. Add the granola in the morning to keep it crisp.
Prepare in the evening · chill overnight
Ingredients
- 100 g fresh or frozen strawberries
- 2 tbsp chia seeds
- 40 g Turtle Gluten-Free Rolled Oats
- 100 ml milk or plant-based drink
- 1 tbsp Turtle Nuts & Seeds Granola
- a drizzle of honey to taste, optional
Method
- Wash and hull fresh strawberries, then chop them. Frozen strawberries can go straight into the saucepan.
- Heat the strawberries gently until soft and juicy. Take the pan off the heat as the mixture starts to boil.
- Stir in 2 tbsp chia seeds and leave to cool. The fruit mixture will thicken as it cools.
- Mix 40 g oats with 100 ml milk or plant-based drink in a bowl or jar. Add a little honey if you wish.
- Spread 2 tbsp cooled strawberry mixture over the oats, cover and refrigerate overnight. Use the remaining fruit mixture for another serving or with yoghurt.
- In the morning, sprinkle over a tablespoon of granola and serve. For a gluten-free breakfast, choose gluten-free granola and check the gluten-free label on any oat drink you use.
For porridge, yoghurt and baking
Small oats absorb liquid quickly for a soft, creamy texture. For warm porridge, cook them in milk or a plant-based drink, stirring regularly. Add a little more liquid to reach the consistency you like. For a cold breakfast, let them soften in the fridge overnight, as in the recipe above.
- Warm porridge: finish with fresh fruit and chopped roasted hazelnuts. Add the nuts just before serving.
- With yoghurt: mix with the oats, a little milk and fruit, then refrigerate until softened. Small oats blend into the yoghurt more readily than large jumbo flakes.
- Homemade granola: mix with nuts and seeds and bake using your own recipe. For a chocolate version, add pieces of 70% dark chocolate once the granola has cooled.
- Baking: use in banana pancakes, muffins or oat biscuits. Follow the quantities in your chosen recipe; oats do not replace flour in equal amounts in every bake.

Laurence and Thilo: breakfast, inspired by family life
- Laurence is Belgian and grew up in Spain and Denmark; Thilo is German. They met in Belgium, where they later founded Turtle. Their different experiences of food helped shape a business devoted to breakfast.
- Porridge came first, with more recipes following over time. Organic ingredients remained central to both the plain grain staples and the more playful cereals. The name Turtle comes from the fable of the tortoise and the hare.
- A family project has grown into a team developing a wider choice of breakfasts. The first porridge went on sale in 2015, granolas followed in 2020 and a new cereal range arrived in 2021. Laurence and Thilo continue to work on the business together.
