It creates a protective film that does not clog pores while providing lipids to the skin. Due to the absence of water, it is concentrated, so a smaller amount is needed compared to regular creams.
My skin is combination and problematic. How to use the balm on the face?
Start with a really small amount, the size of a pea, warm it between your palms until it softens, and massage into clean skin. Focus on areas prone to oiliness and enlarged pores. The balm is suitable for oily-prone skin care and gently cleanses it thanks to juniper. If you feel greasy, reduce the amount next time – the balm should be fully absorbed into the skin.
I have sensitive skin but want the juniper balm. Is it a suitable choice?
This balm contains juniper essential oils, known for their cleansing effects, but may cause irritation in very reactive skin. If you know your skin reacts to natural essences, we recommend testing tolerance on a small area first. For very sensitive skin without the need for sebum regulation, the fragrance-free Natural version is more suitable.
Can the balm be used in summer or at the seaside?
Yes. Although waterless, it is suitable in summer as after-sun care or after swimming in seawater, which can dry out the skin. The juniper version is suitable for caring for a stressed skin barrier and feels lighter on the skin thanks to juniper. We recommend applying a thin layer to damp skin for faster absorption in the heat.
How to properly store the balm in heat or while travelling?
As it is a purely natural product based on tallow without synthetic stabilisers, it may soften in heat. This does not reduce its quality – it will solidify again after cooling. On holiday, do not leave it in direct sunlight. Tip: If the balm softens too much in summer, place it in the fridge for a while; you'll get a pleasantly refreshing care after a hot day.
I want one product for face and body. How to dose it so it doesn't feel heavy?
For the juniper balm, a small amount is sufficient. Apply a thin layer that quickly melts on the skin. On the body, it is suitable for post-sport skin care or refreshing tired legs thanks to the juniper aroma. The skin remains nourished, but thanks to the properties of juniper, it does not feel as heavy as purely greasing ointments.
Can the balm be used on problematic areas of the body (e.g., back acne)?
Yes, juniper is suitable for these purposes due to its cleansing nature. Apply to clean skin after showering. However, avoid mucous membranes and freshly shaved areas, where essential oils may cause temporary stinging. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
I'm breastfeeding. Can this balm be used on nipples?
For nipple care during breastfeeding, we recommend the Natural version, which is completely free of essential oils and fragrances. The juniper balm contains strong natural essences that might bother the baby while nursing or irritate its delicate mucosa. If you still want to use the juniper balm on the body, avoid the breast area.
What is the difference between beef and reindeer tallow in the juniper balm?
Reindeer tallow has a specific lipid profile with a high content of oleic acid, which allows it to spread well and not feel heavy on the skin – this is important for combination skin, for which this juniper balm is intended. Who’s behind the Lapland Cosmetics® brand
Lapland Cosmetics® was founded by Katarina Lehti, a Slovak-born founder living in Lapland. After her own experience with chronically sensitive and dry skin, she began exploring traditional Arctic ingredients – fascinated by how people protected their skin in a harsh climate long before modern cosmetics. She discovered a forgotten treasure: reindeer tallow, which for centuries formed part of Nordic skin care. She tested the first balm on herself and the result was immediate: her skin calmed and recovered, which motivated her to create her own brand (the first of its kind in the world). Her mission became to bring this pure, natural source of nourishment for the skin to others – especially those who struggle with dry, sensitive or even eczema-prone skin.
Lehti built the brand in Lapland (Finland) and has been developing it from the very beginning (2023) as Founder/CEO and the lead formulator. She combines entrepreneurial vision with a deep interest in the science of natural skincare: she studied the available knowledge on reindeer tallow and Nordic plants, completed the necessary certifications for cosmetic production, and gained hands-on experience as a formulator.
