Oak honeydew honey (Geusi Vounou, 450 g)

Geusi Vounou organic oak honey is a honeydew honey made from honeydew associated with oak woodlands. It differs from pale blossom honeys through its very dark, almost black colour, thicker consistency and less floral flavour profile.

Its flavour has a fuller woodland character with a caramel note. This makes it suited not only to everyday sweetening, but also to mature cheeses, roasted vegetables, meat, dark bread and dressings where the sweetness should be balanced by a more pronounced flavour.

Use the honey directly from the jar or stir it briefly before serving. Any change in consistency during storage is natural for honey and does not affect its basic use in cooking.

How to use

  • Bread, porridge and yoghurt – add a small amount to bread, cereal porridge, plain yoghurt or quark.
  • Cheese – serve with hard and mature cheeses, where the saltiness complements the honey’s darker caramel profile.
  • Dressings and marinades – mix with vinegar, olive oil, mustard or spices to suit the dish.
  • Baking – use in gingerbread dough, dark bread, biscuits or desserts where a more distinct honey flavour is needed.

When sweetening tea or another hot drink, add the honey once it has cooled slightly. For a dressing, mix it with the liquid ingredient first so that it combines evenly with the other ingredients.

It is considerably darker and thicker, with a fuller woodland flavour. Blossom honey is usually lighter, with an aroma more closely associated with the nectar of flowering plants.

Rozbalit odpověď

What does oak honey taste like?

It has a full, less floral flavour with a caramel note. The perceived sweetness and intensity may naturally vary between harvests.

Rozbalit odpověď

What colour and consistency does it have?

The supplier describes it as a fairly thick honey with a very dark to almost black colour.

How can I use oak honey?

Use it on bread, in porridge, yoghurt and quark, with hard cheeses, in baking, and in sweet and sour dressings and marinades.

Rozbalit odpověď

Can I use it to sweeten tea?

Yes. Stir in the honey once the drink has cooled slightly and adjust the amount to the desired sweetness.

Yes. Its darker caramel profile pairs well with hard, mature, sheep’s milk and goat’s milk cheeses.

Rozbalit odpověď

Is this oak honey organic?

Yes. Item 9101 is listed as organic honey in the official Geusi Vounou range.
