Magnesium L‑threonate powder with zinc

Which magnesium L-threonate benefits can we describe here? We use the authorised functions of magnesium and the added nutrients, including magnesium’s contribution to normal nervous system function. Research into a particular form does not automatically authorise promises of better memory or sleep. Our FAQ explains the distinction between authorised claims and research findings.

A magnesium compound and the magnesium it supplies are two different amounts. Four scoops provide 2,000 mg of magnesium L‑threonate, including 144 mg of elemental magnesium. Zinc completes this powder formula.

Who is this magnesium supplement for?

For adults looking to supplement magnesium for its role in:

  • Tiredness and fatigue. Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
  • Muscles and the nervous system. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and normal functioning of the nervous system.
  • Psychological function. Magnesium contributes to normal psychological function.

Zinc contributes to normal cognitive function. These authorised functions belong to the individual minerals; they are not a promise of sharper memory or a treatment for a medical condition.

L Cell describes the powder as slightly sweet. Stir two scoops into water or another cooled drink in the morning, then take another two in the evening. The measuring scoop is included.

Important information

  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
  • Food supplements should not replace a varied diet. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important for good health.
  • Keep out of the reach of young children.
  • If you take medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before use. Show them the full ingredient list and details of any other supplements you take.

What makes the powder format different?

The powder offers an alternative to swallowing capsules. A scoop is included. Compare the amount of each ingredient per recommended dose and how many days the pack lasts.

  • 144 mg of elemental magnesium. This provides 38.4% of the nutrient reference value (NRV).
  • 1.5 mg of zinc. The full daily dose provides 15% NRV.
  • Morning and evening directions. The daily amount is divided between two doses.
  • Approximately 30 days per pack. With four scoops daily; the pack contains 60 g powder.

Prefer a format that needs no mixing? Explore L Cell magnesium L‑threonate capsules. They supply the same 144 mg of magnesium per daily dose, with added vitamin D3.

Magnesium L‑threonate vs elemental magnesium: reading the label

Magnesium is the mineral; L‑threonate identifies the compound that supplies it. It is a salt of L‑threonic acid. The compound includes other molecular components as well as magnesium, which is why its total weight is greater than the amount of the mineral alone.

For a fair comparison, look for the elemental magnesium figure. Here, that is 144 mg across the full day. Compare that amount with the magnesium supplied by a bisglycinate, citrate or malate product, using equivalent daily doses.

The powder and capsules are not identical formulas. Four scoops declare 2,000 mg of the compound and four capsules 1,800 mg, yet both supply 144 mg of magnesium. The capsules also contain vitamin D3. Read the complete ingredient list when switching formats.

The powder lists Magtein® as its magnesium L‑threonate ingredient. This is a trade name for the ingredient, rather than an additional mineral. It should not be assumed to apply to every product with a similar name.

Why magnesium and zinc?

  • Magnesium contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and nervous system function. It also contributes to normal muscle function and a reduction of tiredness and fatigue. These are authorised magnesium functions, rather than a promise of instant energy or a treatment for sleeplessness.
  • Zinc has its own authorised functions. It contributes to normal cognitive function and the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Its inclusion does not establish that this combination improves memory or that one magnesium form outperforms every other form.
  • Account for the supplements you already take. Finding magnesium or zinc in a formula is not a reason to add another product containing the same nutrients automatically.
  • Looking for a bisglycinate without added zinc or vitamins? Compare MagPure™ Glycinate by Jigsaw Health, which supplies 50 mg of magnesium per capsule. It is a different form and dose: follow its own directions if switching, rather than assuming the two products should be combined.

Biohacking: food, movement and daily habits

Biohacking uses science, technology and changes to everyday habits to explore how the body and mind function. It can include adjustments to diet, sleep and exercise, meditation, breathing exercises or tracking selected measurements. Supplements are only one part of that wider picture.

What does biohacking involve?

  • Food: a varied diet, regular eating habits and an understanding of nutrient intake.
  • Sleep and rest: keeping track of sleep duration, bedtimes and time to rest during the day.
  • Movement: regular activity that suits your fitness and circumstances.
  • Tracking: a diary, app or wearable device to record habits and how they change.

Keeping a record helps you see what has changed in your routine. Alter your diet, exercise and several supplements at once, and it becomes harder to identify what made a difference. Consistency and a clear record of what you take are useful starting points.

Where do supplements fit in?

Compare ingredients, quantities and directions, rather than relying on a product name alone. With L Cell supplements, look at the main ingredients, added vitamins and minerals, powder or capsule format, and laboratory documentation. A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle remain the foundation.

PraveBio also stocks brands with different specialisms. NoordCode offers functional foods and supplements, including MCT oils, collagen and electrolytes.

Jigsaw Health is an American family business founded in 2005 by Pat Sullivan and his son, Patrick Sullivan Jr. Magnesium and other mineral supplements feature prominently in its range.

BiOptimizers makes food supplements, including enzyme formulas such as the MassZymes digestive enzyme range. Each brand and product has its own composition, so compare the specific formula you are considering.

L Cell: its own laboratory and independent checks

L Cell develops and manufactures food supplements. The brand identifies its own laboratory in Vilnius, Lithuania, as the place where its formulas are made. That gives customers a traceable production location and a clearer picture of the company behind the range.

The range includes glycine with NAC, botanical extracts containing quercetin or resveratrol, and mineral supplements. Many products come as both powders and capsules. Choose the format that suits your routine, while checking the specific ingredients and daily dose for each pack.

Independent laboratories regularly check declared content and unwanted substances, including heavy metals and mycotoxins. Content testing measures the substances analysed; contaminant testing looks for unwanted impurities. Results apply to the sample and tests identified in the laboratory report.

The brand’s documentation also includes GMP and ISO 22000:2018 certificates issued to Longevita Lab and H Drop B.V. Their stated scope covers the development and sale of food supplements and snack foods. They document defined procedures and management systems; ingredient quantities require separate analytical testing.

In-house development and manufacture

L Cell identifies its own Vilnius laboratory as the site where it develops and makes supplements. You can trace the range beyond the brand name to a specific production location.

Check mark

Powders or capsules

Many formulas are available in both formats. Choose between mixing into a drink and swallowing capsules, then check each ingredient amount against the recommended daily dose for that particular product.

Check mark

Independent laboratory testing

Analysis covers declared ingredients and unwanted impurities. The report identifies what was measured and which sample was tested, giving you specific information about the material examined.

Check mark

GMP and ISO 22000:2018

The published certificates cover the stated scope of development and sales. ISO 22000:2018 concerns food safety management systems; a laboratory analysis provides the separate evidence for ingredient quantities in a tested product.

Magnesium L‑threonate FAQs

What can you say about magnesium L‑threonate benefits?

We describe the authorised functions of magnesium and the added nutrients where their conditions of use are met. Magnesium contributes to normal nervous system function and a reduction of tiredness and fatigue, for example; zinc contributes to normal cognitive function.

A scientific study is not the same as an authorised health claim for selling food. Research alone does not permit promises that this product improves memory, reaches the brain or treats insomnia. The practical starting points are its ingredients, elemental magnesium amount and directions.

Does 2,000 mg of L‑threonate mean 2,000 mg of magnesium?

No. The compound includes magnesium and other molecular components. Four scoops contain 2,000 mg of magnesium L‑threonate, of which 144 mg is elemental magnesium. Four capsules contain 1,800 mg of the compound and also provide 144 mg of magnesium.

Use the elemental magnesium figure when comparing supplements. The larger compound figure does not tell you the mineral amount on its own. Check whether each table refers to one capsule or the full daily dose, too.

How do the powder and capsules differ?

Both recommended daily doses supply 144 mg of magnesium and 1.5 mg of zinc. The capsules also provide 0.75 µg of vitamin D3. Magtein® is listed in the powder ingredients; the capsule formula is listed separately.

Preparation is different, too. Stir the powder into a drink, or swallow the capsules with water. Explore the other L Cell format and follow its own directions if switching. Each pack lasts approximately 30 days.

How is L‑threonate different from bisglycinate?

They are different compounds supplying the same mineral: magnesium. L‑threonate is associated with L‑threonic acid, while bisglycinate includes the amino acid glycine. Equal weights of these compounds need not provide equal amounts of magnesium.

Compare elemental magnesium per daily dose first, then the other ingredients and capsule count. For example, MagPure™ Glycinate supplies 50 mg of magnesium per capsule without added zinc or vitamins. It is an alternative to consider, rather than a suggestion to take both automatically.

What does bioavailability mean, and what did EFSA assess?

Bioavailability concerns whether, and to what extent, a substance becomes available to the body after administration. It is not the same as the amount of powder that dissolves in a glass. For a magnesium source, the relevant question is whether the body can obtain magnesium from it. EFSA’s 2024 opinion assessed the safety of a specifically characterised L-threonate ingredient and magnesium availability from that source, considering laboratory, animal and human data.

That is a different question from whether a finished supplement improves memory. Dissolution, blood concentration and amounts in particular tissues measure different things and cannot simply be substituted for one another. A safety and nutrient-source opinion does not itself authorise a new health claim. EFSA scientific opinion, 2024.

How do L-threonate studies measure sleep, and what can those measurements tell us?

What a study actually measured matters more than its title alone. One randomised study published in 2024 followed 80 adults aged 35–55 with self-reported sleep difficulties for 21 days. It combined standardised questionnaires with Oura ring data. A questionnaire captures the participant’s experience; the ring uses bodily signals to estimate sleep measures. Neither directly measures brain magnesium, nor is it the same method as a laboratory sleep examination.

Reading the findings also means considering the placebo group, duration, sample size and formula used. A change in a selected score does not automatically demonstrate treatment of clinical insomnia, and a research protocol’s dose is not the directions for this product. Published study methods, 2024.

Is 144 mg all the magnesium I need in a day?

No. It is 38.4% of the adult nutrient reference value of 375 mg. NRVs help compare food and supplement labels; they do not define your individual requirement. Food and other sources also contribute to your intake.

The 144 mg figure here refers to four scoops or four capsules. One scoop or capsule supplies 36 mg of magnesium. Do not increase the recommended dose to make up a percentage on the label.

What does the powder taste like, and how should I mix it?

L Cell describes the powder as slightly sweet. Choose a drink you enjoy, such as water or another cooled liquid. Measure two supplied scoops for each serving and drink the full prepared amount.

Your choice of drink does not change the recommended amount. The other two scoops are taken in the evening. Let a hot drink cool first, and use the included scoop rather than estimating with a kitchen spoon.

Why split the dose between morning and evening?

That is how this product is intended to be taken. Use two scoops in the morning and two in the evening, or take two capsules with breakfast and two before bed. The total is four scoops or capsules, rather than two.

An evening direction is not a claim to treat insomnia or a guarantee of better sleep. If sleep problems persist, do not let taking a supplement delay seeking medical advice.

Can I take this magnesium with medication?

Ask a doctor or pharmacist about your specific combination. Show them the full formula, recommended dose and any other supplements you take. Some medicines may need to be taken separately from mineral supplements; the appropriate interval depends on the medicine.

Do not change prescribed treatment because of a supplement. General product information cannot replace an individual assessment or guide changes to a medicine dose.

Is magnesium L‑threonate suitable for children or during pregnancy?

No. It is intended for adults only, excluding pregnant and breastfeeding women. This restriction applies to both formats. General advice to consult a doctor does not remove it.

Assess any alternative supplement by its own ingredients and age suitability. The presence of magnesium alone does not make a product suitable for everyone.

What do L Cell laboratory checks establish?

Measuring ingredient content and checking contaminants answer different questions. A report may measure selected substances or check for heavy metals, for example. The result applies to the tested sample and the tests listed in that report.

A laboratory report is not a clinical study of the finished supplement. A management-system certification does not demonstrate a memory benefit either. Find the shared background on testing in the brand section.

Where L Cell supplements are made

Product development and manufacturing in Vilnius are part of L Cell’s own operation. The brand publishes its laboratory address and information about product testing; each supplement still needs to be considered individually.

The range includes GlyNAC with glycine and NAC, botanical extracts such as apigenin and resveratrol, and magnesium supplements. These are different ingredients, with distinct compositions and directions.

Research into an ingredient does not establish the effects of every supplement containing it. Our descriptions distinguish ingredient information from health claims applicable to a particular nutrient and dose.

Pravé Bio and L Cell

Pravé Bio, NUZBOZ s.r.o., is L Cell’s exclusive distributor for the Czech Republic. Our shop carries individual L Cell product ranges and their available formats.

We check ingredient identity, quantities and the full ingredient list. For botanical extracts, we distinguish the weight of the extract from the amount of the specified compound within it.

Powders and capsules from the same range may differ. For example, GlyNAC powder and the capsule version have different glycine-to-NAC ratios; the individual product tables show those differences.

Match your question to the exact product. When comparing options, use the product name, format and pack size. For a laboratory report, also check the sample or batch identification.

Laboratory testing and certificates

Ingredient testing and contaminant testing answer different questions. One measures the amount of an analysed ingredient; the other checks for unwanted substances such as heavy metals. The brand’s documentation includes GMP and ISO 22000:2018 certificates issued to Longevita Lab and H Drop B.V. Their stated scope covers the development and sale of food supplements and food snacks.

A management-system certificate does not replace a product analysis. A laboratory result applies to the identified sample, measured substances and method. It does not establish rejuvenation or another health outcome.
