Wild oregano P73 oil in the more concentrated Super Strength blend
Super Strength Oreganol P73 contains wild oregano oil in organic extra virgin olive oil. It has a higher proportion of oregano oil than Original Strength. This capsule format is for adults who want the more concentrated blend without measuring drops.
Each softgel contains 140 mg of the complete oil blend. Individual amounts of oregano oil and carvacrol are not declared separately. The 140 mg figure alone therefore does not explain the difference between the two strengths.
What does P73 mean?
- NAHS’s proprietary blend of several oregano species: oils from selected species of wild oregano. The brand adopted the name P73 during research at Georgetown University in the early 1990s.
- P = potency, purity and phenolic power: the name refers to the oil’s potency, purity and phenolic constituents.
- 73 refers to the average carvacrol content of the oregano oil itself — approximately 73%. The natural content varies between harvests; this is neither a fixed specification for every batch nor the concentration of the finished supplement.
- Origin and processing: hand-harvesting in remote Mediterranean mountains, selection of several species and steam distillation.
- Naturally low thymol content: NAHS selects for the oil’s overall composition, rather than carvacrol percentage alone.
- 140 mg is the complete capsule filling: oregano oil together with its olive oil carrier. P73 does not provide enough information to calculate the carvacrol content of a softgel.
Why don’t we describe the health effects of these herbal oils? We do not have evidence establishing that a health claim can be used for this particular blend at its recommended daily dose. Super Strength and Original Strength: the same oils in different proportions
Super Strength refers to the higher ratio of oregano oil to olive oil. Both strengths use the P73 blend and an olive oil carrier; they are not different herbs or different types of carvacrol.
The 60:1 comparison, carvacrol percentage and strength name describe different things. NAHS uses 60:1 in its Oreganol P73 comparison of oil with dried oregano leaf. It is not the ratio of oregano oil to olive oil. Steam distillation collects the plant’s volatile aromatic fraction, so the oil does not have the same composition as the dried herb. Original Strength and Super Strength, by contrast, distinguish different proportions of oregano oil in the finished formulation.
- Blend concentration: Super Strength contains a higher proportion of oregano oil relative to olive oil than Original Strength. A higher concentration does not, by itself, establish a proportionately greater health effect.
- Capsule format: the oil is enclosed in a softgel. Swallowing it whole avoids placing drops directly in your mouth or measuring each dose with a dropper.
- Choosing a format: Original Strength Oreganol P73 capsules are the less concentrated option in the same range. Super Strength Oreganol P73 drops have their own directions; capsules and drops are not interchangeable dose for dose.
Wild oregano P73: plant selection and the oil’s composition
Oregano for P73 is hand-harvested in the Turkish mountains. Local harvesters gather wild plants in their natural habitat. NAHS selects several oregano species for its proprietary oil blend.
Carvacrol and thymol are naturally occurring aromatic compounds in oregano. Their proportions vary between species. For P73, NAHS selects species with substantial carvacrol content and naturally low levels of thymol, considering the balance of phenolic compounds alongside the oil’s other constituents.
Can carvacrol content be artificially increased? Separately produced carvacrol, including synthetic carvacrol, can be added to an oil. A high percentage on the label therefore does not establish its origin. P73 is not artificially enriched in this way; its composition comes from the plants selected.
When comparing oils, look at origin, plant species, extraction method and documented composition. Even a very high percentage is not proof of adulteration: appropriate analysis is needed to establish that. Thymol is a natural constituent of oregano; P73 uses species with low levels.
From mountain herb to concentrated oil
Oregano oil is obtained by separating the plant’s aromatic fraction. During steam distillation, steam passes through the herb and carries volatile compounds with it. Cooling produces a condensate from which the oil phase is separated. The resulting essential oil contains the herb’s concentrated aromatic constituents.
- Concentrated oil differs in composition from ground, dried herbs. In Super Strength Oreganol, the distilled oil is blended with organic extra virgin olive oil and filled into tapioca softgels. Olive oil acts as the carrier and stabiliser.
- NAHS uses different processing methods for different ingredients. Cold pressing separates oil by pressure, juicing produces juice, CO₂ extraction uses pressurised carbon dioxide and milling reduces plant material to powder. Steam distillation is used to obtain aromatic oils, including P73.
- NAHS does not use hexane or butane in production. The brand also rejects laboratory processing intended to artificially increase the levels of selected constituents.

NAHS has spent more than thirty years sourcing wild plants and developing its own formulations. Its history reaches back to Mediterranean oregano sourcing and processing in the 1990s. Judy K. Gray, M.S.: founder of NAHS
- Education and early career. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1967 and a master’s degree in 1968, both in education, at the University of Central Missouri. Before founding her own business, she worked in education and marketing.

Organic extra virgin olive oil
The carrier and stabiliser for the oregano oil. The blend is supplied ready to take in a softgel, with no essential oil to dilute at home.
Tapioca shell
A plant-based shell made from tapioca, a starch obtained from cassava. It encloses the liquid oil filling and provides an alternative to animal gelatine.
How to take
Recommended daily dose: 1 softgel with a meal or juice. Swallow whole with a drink. A bottle of 60 softgels provides 60 daily doses; a bottle of 120 provides 120 daily doses.

How does Super Strength differ from Original Strength Oreganol?
Both contain oregano oil P73 and organic extra virgin olive oil. Super Strength has a higher ratio of oregano oil to olive oil. This does not mean a heavier capsule filling: 140 mg refers to the complete blend. Original Strength Oreganol P73 capsules are the less concentrated option.
What does P73 mean?
P73 is NAHS’s proprietary blend of oils from several wild oregano species. P stands for potency, purity and phenolic power; 73 refers to the average carvacrol percentage in the oregano oil itself. It is not the percentage of carvacrol in the finished softgel.
How should you read 60:1 versus 20:1? These are the figures in NAHS’s comparison of oil with dried oregano leaf. Sixty is three times twenty; that arithmetic does not establish three times the health effect. The comparison gives neither a defined mass-based calculation nor a batch-specific extraction yield. It cannot tell you how many grams of dried oregano correspond to a softgel, drop or gummy. Compare the declared oils and, where available, carvacrol amounts at each product’s recommended daily dose.
How much carvacrol is in each softgel?
The carvacrol amount per softgel is not declared separately. The 140 mg figure covers the whole blend, including olive oil. Multiplying it by 73% would not give a valid carvacrol amount.
How do I take the softgels, and how long does a bottle last?
Take 1 softgel daily with a meal or juice. Swallow whole with a drink. A 60-softgel bottle lasts 60 days; a 120-softgel bottle lasts 120 days. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose.
What is the difference between oregano oil capsules and drops?
A softgel encloses a pre-measured oil filling and limits direct contact with the mouth when swallowed whole. Super Strength Oreganol P73 drops are measured with a dropper and have a pronounced aromatic taste when taken. There is no automatic conversion between capsules and drops.
Are the softgels vegan and free from gelatine?
Yes. They are vegan and contain no animal gelatine. The shell is made from plant-based tapioca. This version is also free from glycerine and silicon dioxide. A softgel does not necessarily have a gelatine shell.
Can I open or chew a softgel?
Swallow the softgel whole. Opening or chewing it releases the concentrated aromatic oil and removes the advantage of keeping the filling away from the mouth. If you cannot swallow capsules, consider drops and follow their own directions.
Why is the oregano oil blended with olive oil?
Organic extra virgin olive oil acts as the carrier and stabiliser. The concentrated oregano essential oil is already blended into it in the proportions used for this formula. Olive oil is part of the filling, not the capsule shell.
Why are medicinal benefits not listed here?
A food supplement must not be presented as treating or preventing disease. Research on oregano or carvacrol does not, by itself, establish an effect of this softgel or authorise a health claim. We describe the documented ingredients, P73 origin, processing and directions instead.
Can children or pregnant women take these softgels?
Super Strength is a concentrated option for adults. It is not intended for children, pregnant or breastfeeding women without prior medical advice. Children’s products have their own formulations and doses; an adult softgel cannot simply be adjusted by a child’s body weight.
Can I take Oreganol Super Strength with medication?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist about the specific combination, taking account of your medication and medical history. Seek advice if you have a chronic condition or are due to have surgery. Natural origin does not mean every combination is suitable.
Low thymol content alone does not establish year-round safety or protection of the gut microbiome. NAHS markets Oreganol for daily use; this does not prescribe a universal duration for everyone. It cannot guarantee that the oil affects only unwanted microorganisms while leaving all others unchanged.
