Extra Virgin Olive Oil Koroneiki & Manaki – from the Ermionida Region (Peloponnese)

Ootopia Koroneiki & Manaki comes from the coastal slopes of the Ermionida region in the Peloponnese, where the mild climate and sea currents give the oil its balanced character. It is a blend of two varieties, so the taste features a harmonious connection of origin and varieties.

Blend Koroneiki & Manaki – Balance That Doesn't Overpower

Koroneiki & Manaki offers a pure, balanced expression: green herbs and green tomato with a subtle peppery finish. Bitterness and pungency are in balance, so the oil does not overpower the ingredients and beautifully enhances their natural flavor. Great for finishing salads, carpaccio, grilled vegetables, and red meats.

Flavor Palette and Kitchen Use

The oil feels fresh and harmonious, with a long, clean finish. It shines best in cold cuisine or as a final seasoning for finished dishes, where it adds juiciness and elegance without unnecessary aggressiveness.

Natural Source of Polyphenols

Polyphenols naturally present in olive oil help protect blood lipids from oxidative stress.* The polyphenol content of this oil has been laboratory verified and meets the condition for using the European health claim (at a daily intake of 20 g).

Why Choose Ootopia

Ootopia is a Greek brand based in Athens with olive groves in the Ermionida (Peloponnese) area. It focuses on single-variety extra virgin oils and terroir: it works with the Manaki and Koroneiki varieties, also offering the Koroneiki & Manaki blend and the organic variant Koroneiki Single Estate (Iliokastro).

Acidity of their oils in recent batches ranged in the low range of approximately 0.16 – 0.23%, which corresponds to top quality extra virgin olive oil. The brand emphasizes purity of flavor, stability, and transparent origin – with traceability of individual batches and regular international awards

What makes it different: openly communicates origin and quality, offers thought-out flavor profiles (gently “polite” Manaki and freshly green Koroneiki) and connects Peloponnesian tradition with a modern approach to presentation and packaging. Selected Ootopia olive oils (including Manaki and Koroneiki Single Estate) are also available in gift packaging.

Triangle

What health effects does regular consumption of this oil have?

Laboratory-verified content HT+T 11.3 mg/20 g meets the condition for EU claim 432/2012: polyphenols in olive oil – protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress. The beneficial effect is achieved with a daily intake of 20 g of olive oil.

Triangle

How to recognize truly quality extra virgin olive oil?

Extra virgin olive oil is produced by mechanical extraction without chemicals; the term “cold-pressed” is used at temperatures up to 27 °C. Quality EVOO is recognized by its distinct aroma and fruity taste with subtle bitterness and pungency.

Choose oil with a clearly stated origin (one area/estate or transparent blend), ideally with analytical values (acidity, polyphenols) and in a dark glass bottle.

At PraveBio.cz, we specialize in quality. We work directly with producers and offer only brands with clear origin.

Triangle

Why can private label and white label olive oils be risky?

Private labels and white labels often do not state the full origin and method of production. The label then lacks information about harvest, processing, and quality control.

The problem is often low transparency and blends of oils of unclear origin. A useful source of control is, for example, Potraviny na pranýři.

Prefer verified producers with clear origin and laboratory tests.

Triangle

What is the difference between artisanal and industrially produced olive oil?

Artisanal EVOO is pressed shortly after harvest (often within hours) from olives from a specific area, which is reflected in the sensory and polyphenol content.

Industrial oils are often blends of different harvests and countries, often with a uniform taste and without clear traceability.

Triangle

Does olive oil contain oxalates?

Extra virgin olive oil is considered a food with very low oxalate content (practically 0 mg per serving). This makes it a suitable choice even for a low-oxalate diet.

Triangle

Can extra virgin olive oil work as a natural alternative to ibuprofen?

No. EVOO is not a medicine and does not replace ibuprofen. However, it contains oleocanthal, which in laboratory studies shows COX-1/COX-2 inhibition and contributes to the peppery “tickle” in the throat. Consider it a quality food, not a medicine; follow medical advice in case of problems.

Triangle

Is extra virgin olive oil suitable for histamine intolerance?

EVOO is generally a low-histamine food and is usually well tolerated. Sensitivity is individual – monitor your own reaction and choose oils with traceable origin.

Triangle

What does “cold-pressed” or “first pressing” really mean for olive oil?

In modern production, olives are pressed only once; “first pressing” is a historical term. “Cold-pressed” means extraction at temperatures up to 27 °C and aims to preserve sensory and polyphenols.

Triangle

Why are olive oils with high polyphenol content more expensive?

Early harvest, hand-picking, quick processing, and specific varieties increase costs and reduce yield, but bring higher polyphenol content and more pronounced flavor.

EU 432/2012: oils with at least 5 mg of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives per 20 g can claim to protect blood lipids from oxidative stress. For practical use, aim for ~20 g daily.

Triangle

What health effects do polyphenols in olive oil have?

Polyphenols are natural antioxidants. Within the allowed EU claim, it can be stated that they contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress. The beneficial effect is achieved with a daily intake of 20 g.

Triangle

Why can olive oil be bitter or pungent?

Bitterness and pungency are typical for quality EVOO – they are related to polyphenols, especially oleocanthal (peppery “tickle”) and oleacein (bitterness/structure).

Triangle

How to properly use extra virgin olive oil?

For practical use of the EU claim, consider a daily intake of approx. 20 g (≈ 1–1.5 tablespoons), ideally cold.

In the kitchen: salads, hummus, grilled vegetables, bread; for hot dishes season on the plate.

Triangle

What else can olive oil be used for outside the kitchen?

Olive oil is also popular in body care: for dry skin, after sunbathing/shaving, on hair ends or nail cuticles, or as a gentle makeup remover. Choose pure EVOO with traceable origin.

Who is Ootopia?

The owners of this brand are partly Greek and partly Italian. The land they chose for their olive groves is located in the hills above the seaside town of Ermioni in the Peloponnese, Greece. Their olive varieties are Greek, Italian and Spanish. As they say themselves - they are not nationalists at the core, but perfectionists, so they simply look for the best olive varieties for their oils and don't care what country they come from. Their vision is to create the world's leading olive oil company, producing a range of exceptional extra virgin olive oils with distinctive organoleptic qualities. At the same time, they want to educate professionals and enthusiastic gourmets, develop the use of olive oil in gastronomy and push the boundaries of exceptional quality.

Ootopia has a deep respect for nature and values the knowledge and experience inherent in traditional and sustainable growing practices. They optimize their results with a state-of-the-art olive mill, where they can extract and bottle the best of nature without altering or modifying the ingredients in any significant way, and they also allow for complete traceability and transparency of every step of the process.

all-together

Dimitris holds Bachelor and Master degrees in Civil Engineering and worked towards a Bachelor degree in Enology and Viticulture. In the past, he has served as CEO of several start-up companies.

Thanasis-Balabanis

Chief agronomist and internationally certified olive oil taster Kostas Lyris - Kostas has dedicated his career to the pursuit of the best tasting olive oil that Greek soil has to offer. He is also a master blender, which fits perfectly with the philosophy of Ootopia. Ootopia relies on his international experience as an olive oil taster to create unique blends.

Head of Operations & Administration Panorea Takoumaki - Panorea takes care of the daily operations. He is also legal counsel for Ootipia. Topos

When Ootopia was looking for the ideal "topos" for their business, the Ermionida peninsula enchanted them. It is a beautiful natural area that won their hearts and where they decided to locate their headquarters. The picturesque hills above the ancient town of Ermioniida offer optimal conditions for olive growing thanks to low rainfall, making the area ideal for growing native Greek olive varieties alongside selected Mediterranean varieties.

The Ermionida peninsula, just two and a half hours' drive from Athens, is surrounded by the Gulf of Argolida and the Myrtoon Pelagos Sea. The fresh sea breeze blowing from the historic islands of Spetses and Hydra further increases the fertility of the soil. An otopia is an imaginary, idealized place that has highly desirable or near-perfect qualities for its inhabitants. In this very own Ootopia, they have created the ideal place to produce their own olive oil, welcome their friends, deepen and broaden their knowledge of the land and its treasures, and nurture a community of connoisseurs.

ootopia topos

Harmony

In this place, they strive to achieve perfect harmony of body and soul by ingeniously engaging all their senses and activities. Guests of Ootopia can stroll around, smell the thyme and oregano, enjoy the beautiful landscape and feel the sea breeze on their face.

We recommend a visit to the olive oil production facility (see picture below), which is carefully designed to be fully in line with the environment, and also in line with Ootopia's philosophy of using the latest technology, but only as a means to protect nature and get the best out of it, never to alter it. Not to mention that visitors can even participate in the harvest, take olive oil tasting classes and end the day with a glass of wine and a revitalising meal prepared by their chefs.
