Liquorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – Glycerin Herbal Extract BIO • for digestive and respiratory comfort • alcohol-free • extract 1:1 • 50 ml

Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is a traditional medicinal herb with a distinctly sweet root. In phytotherapy, its root is traditionally used in the form of a decoction or macerate. The herbal extract represents a concentrated form of liquorice. It is particularly used for sensitive digestion (such as a feeling of fullness or recurring bloating) and during increased stress. Liquorice naturally contains compounds such as glycyrrhizin, liquiritin, flavonoids, and saponins.

Botanicals For Life offers organic liquorice from the root as an alcohol-free extract 1:1 in drop form. 1 ml (approx. 20 drops) corresponds to 1 g of dried raw material. The base consists of plant glycerin from coconut and purified water, giving it a milder and sweeter taste than alcoholic tinctures. The bottle lasts for approximately 50 doses.

Why we included Botanicals For Life in the PraveBio.cz range

Botanicals For Life is a British brand of liquid herbal extracts, led by naturopaths. It works with herbs from certified organic and agroecological farms in Europe and India; for selected species, it also uses sustainable harvesting according to FairWild (an international certification and standard for sustainable wild plant harvesting).

The extracts are produced through a subsequent technological process: the dried herb is extracted, the alcohol is then removed by rotary evaporation, the extract is freeze-dried and re-dissolved in organic coconut glycerin and purified water. Compared to classic alcoholic tinctures, these extracts have a milder taste and due to the absence of alcohol, they are more acceptable for many people, including kids. They are therefore suitable for long-term use, while maintaining the strength of 1:1.

The brand emphasizes full transparency: the origin of the herbs, the extraction method, and the context of use are stated directly on the packaging, including a QR code with extended information. We are the exclusive importer and distributor of the brand for all of Europe.

Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – Herbal Extract

The base of the liquid licorice extract consists of plant glycerin from organic coconut and purified water. The plant glycerin from organic coconut naturally imparts a sweet taste to the extract. The resulting taste remains distinctly herbal (without added aromas), but is milder than traditional alcohol tinctures.

In traditional phytotherapy, licorice is among the plant materials used primarily for digestive and respiratory care. The glycerin form is intended for those who cannot consume alcohol (such as drivers) and those who do not prefer alcohol-based products or the strong taste of alcohol tinctures.

Licorice has a long tradition in naturopathy, but the European Union allows only very limited health claims for it. Further information should therefore be sought independently.

The extract ratio is 1:1. During production, 1 ml of liquid was used per 1 g of dried root. This is a production ratio – indicating the amount of raw material and liquid used during extraction. Botanicals For Life extracts contain substances present in the whole plant, not just an isolated component.

The recommended daily dose is 20 drops (approximately 1 ml of extract). Drops can be taken alone or mixed in a small amount of water. During pregnancy, breastfeeding, taking medication, or if you have health issues, always consult a doctor or qualified professional before use.

The package lasts approximately 50 doses. In the Botanicals For Life portfolio, this extract belongs to the DIGEST & DETOX range, which includes products associated with digestion and elimination.

Pravé Bio Recommends What to Buy

  • Fermented Symbiotics - TerrainAn appropriate addition to licorice for supporting not only digestion but also the intestinal environment. Especially suitable for feelings of acidity, digestive irritation, or as a follow-up support for mucous membranes and the intestinal microbiome.
  • Prebiotic and Probiotic - P3-OMAn appropriate addition for supporting the microbiome. Unlike licorice, it does not primarily act as a calming agent but complements it in supporting intestinal balance and greater comfort after meals.
  • Digestive Enzymes - MasszymesAn appropriate addition for irritated stomachs and feelings of heaviness after meals. Licorice supports digestive comfort, while enzymes contribute to the breakdown of food; thus, it is a different but complementary approach.
  • Beef Grass-Fed Collagen for Better Digestion and MicrobiomeAn appropriate addition for supporting not only immediate relief but also long-term intestinal mucosa support. Alongside licorice, it also adds support focused on resilience and regeneration of the digestive tract.

Did You Know?

  • Sweet Root: Licorice is often called sweet wood in Czech. The Latin name Glycyrrhiza means "sweet root". Its main component, glycyrrhizin, is naturally many times sweeter than regular sugar.
  • Licorice in Traditional Medicine: Licorice root was used in ancient Egypt, Greek and Roman medicine, as well as in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda, where it is often part of herbal blends.
  • Difference Compared to Tea: When preparing tea from licorice root, only part of the contained substances are transferred into the infusion. A 1:1 glycerin extract preserves a broader spectrum of plant substances, including triterpenoids and flavonoids. It also does not contain alcohol.
Botanicals For Life Organic Licorice Extract

Main Benefits of Licorice Extract

  • Alcohol-Free Base (BIO Glycerin) – Extract based on organic coconut glycerin and purified water. Suitable for drivers, individuals with sensitive digestion, and users with alcohol intolerance. Free from artificial aromas and sweeteners.
  • Support During Mental Stress – Licorice contributes to maintaining normal adrenal function and supports the body during increased stress. Suitable for busy professionals to maintain mental balance and vitality.
  • High Concentration 1:1 – Each 1 ml of liquid extract corresponds to 1000 mg of dried licorice root. The 1:1 ratio provides 5× higher volume of active substances in one dose compared to standard tinctures with a 1:5 ratio.
  • Triple Extraction Process – Combination of alcohol (ethanol is subsequently evaporated), hot water, and cold water extraction. The method ensures obtaining a complete profile of substances (full-spectrum) including glycyrrhizin and flavonoids.
  • Laboratory-Tested Purity (E-E-A-T) – Formulated by British naturopaths under GMP standards. Each batch undergoes independent testing for heavy metals, pesticides, and mycotoxins to ensure safety in accordance with EU legislation.
  • Certified Organic Origin – Raw material from organic farming with Soil Association Organic certification. Full traceability of root origin without the use of synthetic fertilizers.
  • Dosage and Yield – The package contains 50 doses (when using 1 ml daily). The dropper allows precise application under the tongue or into water/warm drink.

How to Choose a Product from the Digest & Detox Botanicals For Life Collection

In the Digest & Detox collection, we distinguish between two groups: extracts for long-term, regular use for gentle support of digestion, normal liver function, and elimination, and extracts more suitable for short courses during increased body stress. For short courses, a break is usually recommended; the duration is always determined by the specific product.

For long-term use, milder herbs for everyday support of digestion and normal liver function are particularly suitable. The base can be, for example, dandelion root extract or extract from dandelion leaves. For more targeted liver support and detoxification processes, use milk thistle extract, while burdock extract and ginger extract are traditionally used to support digestion and excretion.

The following herbs are traditionally used when the digestive system is under strain and to support liver function and excretion:

  • Liquorice is more suited to shorter courses; however, individual sensitivity should be considered.
  • Dandelion root and leaf support normal liver function, digestion, and excretion.
  • Greater burdock is traditionally used to support excretion, especially in shorter courses.
  • Ginger is traditionally used for digestive strain, during travel, or after heavier meals.
  • Milk thistle is among the best-known herbs for supporting normal liver function.

Why Choose Botanicals For Life

Botanicals For Life is a British brand led by naturopaths from the Mushrooms For Life team. Distribution is handled by Living Planet Distribution (LPD), a company founded in 2016 by Graham Botfield and Ben Shouler. LPD also includes brands like Planet Paleo, Living Nutrition, and Cardio Smile

For herbal extracts, not only the type of plant matters but also the cultivation and harvesting methods. Botanicals For Life works with herbs from organic farming (certified by the Soil Association Organic), agroecological farming, and wildcrafted sources. If a specific raw material is covered by the FairWild standard, it is indicated on the label.

Extract production: The extract is prepared from the dried plant, followed by evaporation, freeze-drying, and conversion into a liquid form. The finished extract is alcohol-free. The base consists of plant glycerin from organic coconut and purified water. The liquid form allows precise drop-by-drop dosing.

The label provides information about the origin of the raw materials, processing method, and recommended use. The packaging also includes QR codes with more detailed information, including warnings about contraindications.

Why we recommend this brand: Each extract clearly states key information: the origin of the raw material, cultivation and production methods, and any certifications.

This selection is based on documented data, not just the herb's name. In the field of herbal supplements, this level of transparent information is crucial.

Dietary supplement. Does not replace a varied diet. Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage. Keep out of reach of kids.

Composition Analysis and Its Purpose

Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

What it is: The root of the Glycyrrhiza glabra plant, a traditional herb in European and Asian phytotherapy. In phytotherapy, the root is typically used in the form of a decoction or as part of herbal blends.

Function: Liquorice root contains triterpenoid saponins (notably glycyrrhizin) and flavonoids (such as liquiritin), which contribute to its typically sweet taste and traditional use for digestive comfort and respiratory well-being

Benefits: Glycerin extract from liquorice root is suitable as a herbal supplement during periods when you want to gently support digestive comfort while enjoying a pleasantly sweet taste without alcohol.

Glycerin (glycerol)

What it is: In alcohol-free glycerin extracts (glycerites), it serves as a carrier. Compared to regular "plant glycerin" (which may come from a mix of various plant oils), coconut glycerin offers a clear origin in organic quality.

Function: Keeps the herbal extract in a stable liquid form suitable for drop-by-drop dosing.

Benefits: The extract can be easily mixed into a drink, and the taste is generally milder and sweeter than alcoholic tinctures.

Other Ingredients

Purified water – complements the glycerin base and keeps the extract in liquid form.

Usage

The recommended dose is 1–2 times daily 1 ml (approx. 20 drops). It can be taken alone or mixed in a small amount of water.

Take with meals (e.g., with breakfast or lunch for better tolerance). Do not exceed 2 ml of licorice daily unless directed otherwise by a doctor or qualified professional.

Warnings

  • Dietary supplement. Does not replace a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage (max. 2 ml/day, unless directed otherwise by a professional). Keep out of reach of kids.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication, or have health issues, consult a professional about the suitability of use.
  • Literature repeatedly mentions caution for individuals with high blood pressure, when taking diuretics, corticosteroids, heart or blood pressure medications, and with long-term use in higher doses.

FAQ

Why does Botanicals For Life use alcohol in extraction?

Alcohol is an effective medium in herbal extraction. It is not used to remain in the final product but to release substances from the plant that are more difficult to obtain with water or glycerin.

For licorice extracts, an alcohol infusion is first prepared, then the alcohol is removed, and the extract is transferred to an alcohol-free carrier. Alcohol is only part of the production, not an ingredient in the final product.

Triangle

Is licorice just for digestion?

No. While licorice is mainly known in connection with the stomach, digestion, and mucous membranes, its traditional use is broader. In herbal practice, it is also used during long-term stress, fatigue, and exhaustion, so customers often seek it not only for digestion but also as part of overall support during higher stress.

Therefore, it is not just a "stomach herb" but an extract with broader traditional use for overall support of the body.

Triangle

What is the difference between licorice extract, decoction, and capsules?

With decoction, the concentration depends on the boiling time and the amount of water, so the dose is not precise. Capsules usually contain ground root without extraction. This product is a liquid extract 1:1, where 1 ml corresponds to 1 g of dried root. The concentration and dosage are clearly defined.

Triangle

What happens to the alcohol after licorice extraction?

After extraction, the alcohol is removed under reduced pressure (vacuum), allowing evaporation at low temperatures. The result is a concentrated extract without alcohol, transferred into a mixture of organic coconut glycerin and purified water.

Triangle

What does triple (multi-stage) extraction mean?

This is a process that combines several phases (alcohol and water). Different components are better released into different media. Licorice is processed gradually to obtain a wider range of substances, not just a common infusion.

Triangle

Why is coconut glycerin used in the final extract?

Glycerin keeps the extract stable and liquid without alcohol. Botanicals For Life uses plant glycerin from organic coconut, not cheap substitutes from soy or rapeseed. This ensures the customer has certainty of the pure origin of the carrier medium.

Triangle

Is an alcohol-free extract weaker than a traditional tincture?

An alcohol-free form does not mean a weaker effect. The strength is determined by the extraction ratio (1:1). An alcohol tincture retains alcohol, while here it is removed. The 1:1 ratio means that 1 ml of extract corresponds to 1 g of dried root.

Triangle

How is the concentration (1:1) of licorice extract defined?

The 1:1 ratio means that 1 ml of the finished extract corresponds to 1 g of dried licorice root. For less concentrated products, such as 1:5, you would need to take 5 ml of liquid for the same strength dose. The 1:1 ratio thus means high concentration.

Triangle

Why is licorice extract more expensive than regular tinctures?

At first glance, the price is higher, but fair comparison can only be made based on actual concentration. This extract has a ratio of 1:1, meaning 1 ml corresponds to 1 g of dried root. Regular tinctures often have a ratio of 1:5, so for the same strength dose, you need approximately five times the amount.

Practically, this means that 50 ml of 1:1 extract corresponds to about 250 ml of 1:5 tincture. If a regular 50 ml tincture costs about 109 to 138 CZK, 250 ml would be approximately 545 to 690 CZK. Botanicals For Life is roughly 450 to 550 CZK for 50 ml, so in terms of comparable strength, it may not be more expensive and could be similar or even more advantageous.

Triangle

How does Botanicals For Life ensure purity and quality control?

Each batch undergoes laboratory testing for heavy metals, yeasts, moulds, mycotoxins, and pesticide residues. This ensures the final product meets strict safety and purity requirements.

Who is behind the Botanicals For Life brand

The Botanicals For Life brand was founded by naturopath Ben Shouler and nutritional therapist Graham Botfield. In 2016 they jointly established the distribution company Living Planet Distribution to bring innovative, high-quality food supplements to the market. Thanks to their own research, modern extraction technologies and a focus on raw materials from ecological farming, they have built a company that now represents more than ten brands and hundreds of product lines in the field of natural medicine.

Building on the success of their first brand, Mushrooms For Life, focused on medicinal mushrooms, they created Botanicals For Life – a portfolio of organic herbal extracts formulated with the same care and scientific approach. Both brands share a philosophy of sustainable sourcing, maximum efficacy and transparent UK-based production, which has earned them a reputation as a reliable partner for anyone seeking a natural path to vitality.

The mission of Botanicals For Life

The mission of Botanicals For Life is to make premium herbal supplements from ecological farming accessible to the wider public and to connect traditional herbalism with current scientific knowledge. Through state-of-the-art extraction technologies, it maximises the bioavailability of active compounds, while strictly transparent UK production guarantees purity and traceability at every step.

At the same time, the brand is built on sustainable sourcing, eco-friendly packaging and a “zero-waste” mindset, so that care for the health of the planet goes hand in hand with care for human health. The goal is to offer ethical, scientifically informed supplements that support immunity, hormonal balance and overall vitality.
