The current version uses calcium carbonate, which allows quicker and smoother mixing and gives the drink a more consistent flavour/texture. The choice reflects customer feedback (less sediment, “chalky” flavour and fizzing) while retaining the pharmaceutical quality of the ingredient. The formula remains consistent with the product's focus: day-to-day hydration and replenishment of key electrolytes and micronutrients without added sugar.
When mixed with water and citric acid, some of the calcium carbonate is naturally converted into calcium citrate, which is more soluble. The greater solubility may feel gentler on the stomach for some users (with less of a “chalky” feeling or belching than with some doses of carbonate). Tolerance varies between individuals and also depends on fluid volume and food intake.
How should I store it and how long does it last after opening?
Store in a cool, dry place, close the packaging carefully after use and protect it from moisture. Once opened, ideally use within 2 months; this helps prevent the powder hardening due to moisture and exposure to air.

Why does the formula contain citric acid and where does it come from?

The ingredient comes from fermented cassava and is kosher, halal and Non-GMO Project Verified; it undergoes purification and testing for unwanted contaminants. If you prefer an option without citric acid, choose Re-Lyte® capsules.
Where does the stevia come from and why specifically rebaudioside-A?
The formula uses rebaudioside-A (Reb-A) – a purified steviol glycoside from stevia grown in China (one of the world's main stevia-growing regions). Choosing Reb-A gives the drink a cleaner sweetness with less bitterness than less purified extracts (e.g. blends containing stevioside), so there is no need to add sugar or artificial sweeteners.

Who is behind Redmond
Redmond was founded in 1958 by brothers Milo and Lamar Bosshardt, farmers from the town of Redmond in Utah. What are Real Salt® and Re-Lyte®, and what do they offer?
Real Salt® is an unrefined salt mined from an underground deposit in Utah, USA. It is not produced by evaporating modern seawater and is neither chemically refined nor bleached after mining. Alongside sodium chloride, it naturally contains other mineral elements that contribute to its characteristic colour and taste.
According to the available analytical data, sodium chloride makes up approximately 91–96 % by weight of Real Salt®. Its mineral profile includes calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron, among others, and the manufacturer reports more than 60 naturally occurring trace elements.
From a nutritional perspective, however, Real Salt® should primarily be regarded as salt, and therefore a source of sodium and chloride. The presence of dozens of trace elements does not mean that a typical serving of salt provides nutritionally significant amounts of all these minerals.
Real Salt® also contains only naturally occurring trace amounts of iodine. It is therefore not equivalent to iodised salt where salt is intended to provide a significant source of iodine in the diet.

Real Salt® is OMRI Listed, allowing it to be used in certified organic production or food processing under the USDA National Organic Program rules. Redmond also publishes documentation for its Kosher certification. With the newer Roots range, the manufacturer has extended independent verification to protein nutrition: Roots Protein has received Informed Protein and Informed Choice certifications, covering verification of declared protein content, manufacturing standards and testing for banned substances.

The natural mineral profile of Real Salt®
Real Salt® comes from an underground deposit in central Utah, rather than from a modern ocean. Its origin is therefore fundamentally different from salts produced by evaporating present-day seawater.
After mining, the salt is mechanically processed and graded by crystal size. Redmond offers it in forms ranging from very fine through standard cooking salt to coarse crystals and Kosher Salt. The base ingredient is neither chemically refined nor bleached.
Real Salt® is therefore not perfectly white. Individual crystals may have pink, reddish or other natural tones associated with the mineral composition of the deposit.
What makes the difference
A practical distinction of Redmond’s own underground source is the traceable origin of the key ingredient. Real Salt® is directly linked to a specific deposit in Utah, and Redmond publishes its elemental analysis.
The same unrefined salt is available in several grain sizes depending on whether you need it for everyday cooking, baking, seasoning finished dishes or using in a grinder. Real Salt® also forms the basis of seasoning blends and other culinary products.
For electrolyte hydration, the brand has a separate Re-Lyte® range that combines sodium with other electrolytes. Real Salt® itself should therefore not automatically be treated as a complete electrolyte blend.

Its origins lie in ancient volcanic activity in the area: the material formed through the weathering of volcanic ash deposited millions of years ago. Redmond states that the local clay naturally contains both calcium and sodium, along with other trace mineral elements.
Bentonite clay appears not only as standalone Redmond Clay®, but also in other products from the brand. It is, for example, one of the core mineral ingredients in Earthpaste® oral care, while Redmond also draws on its experience with salt and clay in the newer Leaf range. Salt and bentonite clay are therefore the two original mineral resources from which Redmond’s broader present-day range has gradually developed.
