Greek orange blossom honey with Aegina pistachios

This jar brings together two Greek ingredients with a clear origin: orange blossom honey (orange blossom honey) and whole Aegina pistachios.

It is a single-flower honey, harvested when citrus trees are in bloom. The honey is kept in its natural state, without unnecessary overheating or dilution. The pistachios are added whole, not as a paste or crumbs.

The result is honey that tastes clean, aromatic, and pleasantly crunchy. It is a wonderful treat and our personal tip for a beautiful gift.

How Greeks enjoy orange blossom honey

In Greece, orange blossom honey is part of everyday food, not just a festive extra. Most often it appears at breakfast: thick Greek yoghurt is drizzled with honey and finished with nuts or pistachios.

It is just as natural to use honey on fresh bread or toast, sometimes alongside butter or tahini. Citrus blossom honey also features in desserts as a lighter alternative to syrups, and its fresh aroma pairs beautifully with delicate sheep’s and goat’s cheeses such as feta or manouri.

The version with Aegina pistachios is seen as a ready-made delicacy: add it to yoghurt, porridge, or cheese and you get an instant “Greek” taste without any extra effort.

How to enjoy it at home

Orange blossom honey with pistachios is gentle, and the pistachios stand out clearly. It works best in dishes that are not very sweet on their own – with Greek yoghurt, kefir, or simple porridges. There it replaces sugar and adds both flavour and crunch.

With ready-made sweeter granolas, it makes most sense in smaller amounts, or with less-sweetened varieties; otherwise its delicate citrus note can easily get lost.

More serving ideas

  • over Greek yoghurt or quark – a few spoonfuls are enough for the whole Aegina pistachios to shine,
  • into porridges you sweeten to taste: oat, rice, buckwheat, or millet; add the honey on the plate, not while cooking,
  • on homemade “semolina-style” porridges made from more nutritious flours (for example green banana flour or finely milled jackfruit seeds) – here it replaces sugar and adds a gentle aroma,
  • with mild cheeses, especially goat’s and sheep’s (feta, manouri) – the citrus honey lifts their flavour and the pistachios add crunch,
  • on bread or pancakes when you want something sweet without alternative sweeteners or white sugar.

Serving tip: if the honey crystallises, simply warm the jar briefly in a water bath to about 40 °C. It will return to a liquid texture without losing aroma or flavour.

Pure ingredients, no additives

Quality guarantee: no syrups, no extra sweetening – only honey and pistachios. Recent European checks and OLAF investigations have repeatedly warned that some imported honeys in the EU may be diluted with sugar syrups. With honey, a short ingredient list and traceable origin are the most reliable difference from mass-blended products.

Orange blossom honey: where it comes from

Orange blossom honey comes from the nectar of orange tree flowers. It is not made from the fruit, so it is not “honey flavoured with orange”, but a true floral honey with a naturally fresh, citrus-blossom aroma. Because it is naturally higher in glucose, this honey usually crystallises more quickly – a normal sign of minimal processing.

Floral honeys, including citrus varieties, are a natural source of enzymes and polyphenols. These compounds underpin the antioxidant activity described in modern literature. Honey remains a food, not a medicine, but its bioactive components are well documented.

Why Aegina pistachios matter

Fistiki Aeginis are pistachios grown on the small island of Aegina in the Saronic Gulf. Since 1997 they have held protected designation of origin PDO, meaning both their provenance and processing follow strict rules. The island climate gives them a characteristic buttery, nutty flavour and a gentle sweetness.

The pistachios are not here for show. There is a generous 28 % of them, so they are a true part of the jar, not just decoration.

FAQ

Is this honey with orange, or from orange blossoms?

It is orange blossom honey. The flavour is floral and citrus-fresh, without added aroma.

Why does the honey crystallise?

Crystallisation is natural. Orange blossom honey has a higher share of glucose, so it sets faster than some other types. This is not a fault, nor a sign of added sugar.

Why is it more expensive than standard supermarket honey?

It is a single-flower, seasonal honey, harvested during the short citrus bloom. It also contains a high proportion of Aegina pistachios PDO from small island production. You are paying for clear origin, pure ingredients, and ingredients with a long Greek tradition.

Does it contain added sugar or syrups?

No. The ingredients are only honey and pistachios.

Does it contain peanuts?

No. The label “Aegina Peanut” is historically misleading. The jar contains Aegina pistachios, not peanuts.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, but as with any honey, it is not recommended for children under 1 year old.

Which allergens does it contain?

It contains pistachios (tree nuts).
